The Archaeological Museum of the Alt Maestrat

The Archaeological Museum of the Alt Maestrat is located Benassal and it was created with the objective of taking and exhibiting the materials of the Gabinete de Investigación Arqueológica del Alt Maestrat, which have been being compiled since the seventies.

It is located in La Mola castle, a building dating from the 13th century and in which there is a significant exhibition of the different discoveries from the archaeological sites of the area. In fact, from the archaeological point of view, the region is one of the most fertile and rich in expression of the different cultures and periods between the Prehistory to the Islamic Middle Ages. Therefore, the museum contains remains dating from the year 8,000 B.C. to the 13th century and autochthonous elements dating from the Epipaleolithic to the Andalusí period.
