Cova del Castell Museum

Cova del Castell Museum. The different cultures that have lived in Ares del Maestrat have known how to recognise the geostrategic importance of the hill on which it is located. From the oriental high plain of this natural vantage point, a wide landscape can be dominated and the vertical crags that surround it are a natural advantage in its defense. The Ares Castle was built in the highest site, with two fortified and terraced enclosures, which are almost concentric and make it practically impregnable. The centre of the village grew at the foot of the castle and it was also protected by a last walled enclosure.
